Chakra Points & Their Meanings
Understanding your body and how it works is advantageous in dealing with physical and mental health. Having a healthy mind, body and soul is considered necessary to have well being.
Our body has seven energy points called chakras. A chakra is a point on the body which channels both physical and spiritual energy. Physically, each chakra is associated with a particular body organ and gland. When chakras are balanced, a sense of physical well being is achieved. Mentally, when chakras are balanced and energy is free flowing, a state of mental clarity is attained. Spiritually, when chakras are balanced, our energetic vibration rate rises, allowing us to experience more of our true divine nature and connection.
The seven major chakra points are the base or root chakra, sacral or spleen chakra, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye or brow chakra and the crown.
The Base Chakra
Located at the base of the spine. It is the chakra closest to the earth and represents earthly grounding. Fear is felt in this chakra and it controls your sense of survival or your fight. When this chakra is weak, you may feel very tired, afraid of change or feeling cold from poor circulation. On the other hand if it is over charged, you may feel aggressive, reckless or even too impulsive.
The Spleen Charka
Located on the spine in the lower abdomen, between the naval and the base of the spine. It is associated with creativity, emotions, desire and sexuality. If this charka is weak, you may feel unresponsive sexually and emotionally, anti-social, and unoriginal. If this charka is over charged, one may feel lustful, arrogant, and selfish.
The Solar Plexus
Located at the spine just above the naval. This chakra is associated with the intellect and thinking process. A person’s sensitivity is also stored here. Physically it is linked to the digestive system and helps the body assimilate nutrients. A weak solar plexus charka can mean a mental block, feeling isolated and lethargy. Overactive, on the other hand it can cause nervousness, unrest, mental overload and digestion problems.
The Heart Chakra
is located on the spine in the area of the heart. This chakra is associated with our ability to give and receive love. It enables us to feel compassion and reach out to others. It is the center of the chakras and has the ability to balance all seven energy centers. When weak, you may feel closed to others, low self-esteem and insecurity. However if overactive, you may experience giving too much of oneself, over confidence and jealousy.
The Throat Chakra
Located on the spine in the throat area. This chakra is physically linked to the throat, vocal chords, esophagus, mouth and teeth. When this is weak, it may cause communication problems, an inability to express your feelings and ideas. When overactive, the throat chakra may result in negative speaking, criticizing and hyperactive attitude.
The Third Eye Chakra
Located in the middle of the forehead, just above the eyes. This chakra is used to question the spiritual nature of our life. Our dreams are held in this chakra. When weak, this center may cause self-doubt, forgetfulness and headaches. If over charged, you may be oversensitive, spaced out and experiencing psychic overload.
The Crown Chakra
Located at the top of the head, slightly to the back. It is associated with our feeling of oneness with the universe. Physically this chakra is linked to the upper brain and right eye. This chakra is said to be your own place of connection to God. A weak crown chakra can cause a feeling of disconnection with the vital flow of life, uninspired and self denial. Overactive, this may cause a disconnection with the earthly plane, being impractical and not connected to reality.
